Air Fabric | Graphene X

Product Reveal Trailer

A crumpled piece of fabric floating in midair among scattered feathers on a gray background.

We team back up with Graphene-X for their newest science-backed innovation: a high performance, featherlight graphene-integrated fabric.

This time we were tasked with the full production of a reveal film that showcased the Air Fabric’s technical properties and generated excitement around it’s possible applications.

Air Fabric

A state-of-the-art piece of material technology engineered by Graphene-X. The Air Fabric boasts thermo-conductive and antibacterial properties while maintaining an incredible weight-to-strength ratio for ultimate performance.

Concept

Beginning at the microscopic level of nanometer polyester threads, we’ll explore the potential the fabric offers throughout progressively enlarging the visual scale and assembling the cloth - with the climax of the journey portraying the complete, tangible fabric. Focusing on bold surrealism and flowing motion graphics, we wanted to portray the subject as close to air as possible while keeping it’s aesthetic grounded and photorealistic.

The Micro

A collection of aluminum stir sticks arranged on a white background, with some crossed over each other.

The micro level abstracts are visualizing the polyester and graphene strands weaving together to make the Air Fabric string.

The Macro

Close-up of crumpled light gray fabric with a textured surface.

The macro shots are focused on showing off the light, wavy, airiness of the fabric as well as its technical properties like strength, breathability, etc.

Show Don’t Tell

Gray and white cloud against a gray background.

We went with a more visual approach when demonstrating the lightness of the fabric. Instead of displaying weight statistics and thickness properties, we decided to abstractly showcase the weightlessness using clouds, feathers, and wind simulations.

R&D

As this was our first project in Cinema 4D, we conducted extensive tests to explore its capabilities. Each experiment allowed us to push the boundaries of the software, delving into lighting, texturing, and animation.
